Peer Gynt is one of the famous masterpieces of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen(1828-1906),known as the “father of modern drama”.It is a legendary and profound philosophical satire drama.Afterwards,it was composed by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg(1843-1907),and eight pieces were selected and written into two sets of string “Peer Gynt”suites, which Grieg himself arranged into two sets.Grieg,as an outstanding master of miniature works, fully displayed his nationality and individualized creative style in his creation. His composition techniques not only embodies the lyricism of romantic music, but also incorporates his unique creative characterstics. These factors make this work a paragon of dramatic music in the history of world music. This thesis is mainly divided into three parts. The first chapter systematically introduces Grieg's musical career and the background of this work; The second chapter mainly discusses the musical structure, dramatic features and the composer's personality for the romantic creation techniques. The third chapter will combine my own playing experience, through five aspects of timbre imitation, voice part processing, decorative sound playing, dramatic presentation of strength and speed, and the use of pedals to explore the interpretation of the performance of the piano solo version of the first suite of Peer Gynt.Through the research of these aspects,I hope to have a deeper understanding of the style characteristics of Grieg's work and provide more and better basis and guidance for his own performance.
