Grieg is the exponent of European traditonal music school in nineteenth centuriy.Having inherited and absorbed the good tradition and creative achievement from Western Europe classicism and romantism art, he went so far in the field of the methods of traditonal music expression that made his works with distinct folk style and affection.His work is well- refined,breif,poetic and clearly fresh,which is fully displayed in the orchestral music suite --- "Peer Gynt Suite ",his best-known masterpiece.The thesis makes an analysis mainly to the first suite of "Peer Gynt Suite "This paper is totally divided into three chapters:The first chapter introduces Grieg and his work..The second chapter makes a careful study on the characteristic of orchestrating in the first suite.The third chapter makes a comprehensive summary on the feature of the employment of the Orchestrating in the first suite,including band establishment,the using of the instrument and the way unfolding the music.On the basis of the analysis of Grieg's first suite of "Peer Gynt Suite ",this paper tries to explore his spirit of innovation while keeping a foothold in traditonal music.
