With the aggravation of the aging problem of the world population, the elderly have gradually become a special group that society focuses on.Both the transformation of the main social contradictions in China and the important speeches of national leaders show the importance of improving the quality of life of the elderly.Improving the quality of life of the elderly is not only one of the yardsticks to measure the effective response to population aging, but also an integral part of the system of effective response to population aging. This study explores the effects of personality traits on quality of life in older adults, and introduces two variables, perceived social support and coping style,to investigate their multiple mediating effects between personality traits and quality of life,in order to enrich domestic and international research on personality traits and quality of life in older adults. In this study,230 older adults in Nanjing and Nanyang were surveyed using the Multidimensional Appreciative Social Support Scale, the short version of the Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory, the Simple Coping Style Questionnaire, and the Comprehensive Quality of Life Assessment Questionnaire, and the SPSS23.0 and Amos24.0 software were used to investigate the relationship between personality traits and quality of life in older adults and the relationship between personality traits and quality of life in older adults.the role of comprehending social support and coping styles in it.The results of the study were as follows.(1)Older adults have personality traits that favor rigor and agreeableness, have a high level of perceived social support, tend to adopt positive coping styles to solve problems, and have a high level of quality of life.(2)Neuroticism was negatively correlated with perceived social support, positive coping and quality of life, while the other dimensions(extraversion, agreeableness, rigor and openness)were positively correlated with quality of life, positive coping and quality of life.(3)The analysis of mediating effects showed that perceived social support and positive coping style mediated the relationship between personality traits(neuroticism, agreeableness, and extraversion)and quality of life, and there were three mediating paths: first, the separate mediating effect of perceived social support;second, the separate mediating effect of positive coping style;and third, the chain mediating effect of perceived social support and positive coping style.Conclusions:(1)The personality traits of older adults are dominated by rigor and agreeableness, and they have high levels of apprehended social support, tend to adopt positive coping styles to solve problems, and have high levels of quality of life.(2)The higher the level of neuroticism, the lower the level of perceived social support, the less likely they are to adopt positive coping styles, and the lower their quality of life;the higher the level of extraversion, agreeableness, rigor, and openness, the higher the level of perceived social support, the easier they are to adopt positive coping styles, and the higher their quality of life.(3)Personality traits(neuroticism, agreeableness, and extraversion)of older adults indirectly affect quality of life by influencing perceived social support and thus coping styles.
