A Study On The Folklore Narrative Of The Ethnic Minority TV Drama "Story In The Wood House"

The 40-episode Naxi TV drama Turbulence of the Mu Clan,which aired in 2012,has achieved great success in terms of audience rating,reputation,recognition,word of mouth,and economic benefits,and has become a masterpiece among ethnic minority TV series in recent years.As a TV series that "filled the gap of the Naxi people within Chinese TV series with successful editing,directing,acting,shooting,recording,and broadcasting",Turbulence of the Mu Clan mainly tells the story of the reign of the Naxi chief surnamed Mu during in Ming dynasty Yunnan,and the bloody struggle for power and the resentment of power change within the Mu family.The TV series combines the theme of "ethnic unity and ethnic harmony" with Naxi history and folklore,and the regional scenery of Lijiang,Yunnan,and has won the national outstanding TV drama award,the first prize of the long drama category in the "Feitian Awards",the international long drama best film award in the "Golden Panda Awards".The success of the drama is inseparable from the application and narration of Naxi folk customs.Through the study of folk narration in the TV drama Turbulence of the Mu Clan,by through narratology and folklore theory,it can be found that the TV drama mainly uses true to life art processing,scenes connected by a running narrative,and the integration of epic storytelling and drama to show the Naxi people in the corresponding period architecture,clothing,production and trade,food and medicine and other material folk customs,social organizations,social systems,festivals and other social folk customs and folk beliefs,moral concepts and other spiritual folk customs.The folk narration in the TV drama Turbulence of the Mu Clan has artistic function,cultural function,political function and economic function.However,there are three problems in the folk narrative of Turbulence of the Mu Clan such as "inaccurate narration",a "lack of narration" and "over-narration",which manifest as the following: some folk customs are obviously different from as they are in real life,some folk customs are made up out of thin air,some unique folk customs are overlooked,some important folk customs are not represented,the indiscriminate use of folklore,The representation of folklore tends to be deified,and so on.This paper based on the Naxi folk customs in China’s ethnic minority TV drama Turbulence of the Mu Clan,studies the ways,functions and shortcomings of folk narration in Turbulence of the Mu Clan,from the perspective of narrative,and summarises the success and failure of the TV drama in the application of folk customs and summarises the laws of folk narration.This study can enrich the research on minority themed TV series inChina,at the same time providing a reference for the creation of minority themed TV series in the future,which is conducive to the improvement in the quality of minority themed TV series created in China...
