A Synchronic And Diachronic Investigation Of "V From" And "V From"

This paper studies the two patterns of"V zi(自)"and"V ziyu(自于)"from the synchronic and diachronic perspectives.First,We studies the diachronic semantic evolution of"zi(自)"and its multiple grammaticalization processes.There are two grammaticalization paths of"zi(自)",the first is"noun-emphatic pronoun-pronoun-reference pronoun-adverb",and the second is"noun-verb-preposition",both of them is derived form the original meaning of“nose”.Then we make a diachronic study on"V zi(自)"and"V ziyu(自于)",including the diachronic change of verbs and objects,the process of lexicalization,the motivation and mechanism of lexicalization for both of them.we also analyzes the lexicalization degree of"V zi(自)"from three aspects:phonetic,semantic and syntactic.At last,we take"laizi(来自)/chuzi(出自)/yuanzi(源自)"and"laiziyu(来自于)/chuziyu(出自于)/yuanziyu(源自于)"as examples to make a synchronic investigation.We mainly investigate the differences between them in the relevant elements,the relevant distance and the syntactic elements they act on.They have their own tendencies.This tendency of"laizi(来自)/chuzi(出自)/yuanzi(源自)"and"laiziyu(来自于)/chuziyu(出自于)/yuanziyu(源自于)"can be explained by the principle of quantity iconicity.
