Research On Inscriptions Written By Wu Ziyu

Wu Ziyu(1520-1589),whose original name was yuan, literary name was Ziyu or Ruigu,titled as Mingshan or Big Zhang Mountain Hermit.He was born in Xiuning(presently called Xiuning County, Anhui Province)in Ming Dynasty.As a tribute student,he was promoted to be a teacher in Yingtian Government. Lost his farther in childhood, he was poor and fond of learning. Taken part in the examination of Xiuning County,he was a master in teaching at17.He was famous in his time and praised by scholars such as leaders of his county. A lot of compilation such as Baiyue Annals, County Annals and Famous Person Annals in Nanjing was written by Ziyu. His opuses include Poem and Prose by Ruigu, Twelve Remark of Mingzhou, Genealogy of Wu’.In his later years, he was promoted to history department in Yingtian Government before his death. Anthology of Big Zhang Mountain hermit (include53volumes) was the most famous masterpiece. This thesis studies the inscriptions written by Wu Ziyu from his life, traveling, friends, analysis on examples of inscription, writing character and art, cultural values. This paper contains the following parts spicificly:The introduction briefly introduces the purpose, origin, significance and research status and so on, which be taken as the background to elaborate the innovation of the paper, to further clarify the research ideas and methods.Chapter One mainly researches on Wu Ziyu’s life, traveling, friends and writing. The part of life emphasizes a research on differences in Wu Ziyu’s death year according to Xiuning County Annals, Index of biography material in Ming Dynasty, Column in the poetry biographies, Genealogy of Wu’in Xiuning County and Supplement of Chinese book collection on basis of which we distinguish and textual research Wu Ziyu’s birth year. Secondly we list a table of friends, and we mainly combs acquaintances which are more closely related to Wu Ziyu’s writing, which will be noted on table part for inspection; Finally we research on the writings of Wu Ziyu, which focuses on the Anthology of Big Zhang Mountain hermit.Chater Two analysizes the inscriptions written by Wu Ziyu. This chapter is the focus of the paper.It analysizes the inscriptions written by Wu Ziyu which are divided into three aspects, which are small intellectuals long trapped in field house, small and medium-sized businessmen and other categories from the perspective of writing subjects on the base of original object of Anthology of Big Zhang Mountain hermit. The small intellectuals are subdivided into two small classes who insisit on career and go live in the wood. Businessmen are divided into antonym businessmen and confucian businessmen.The other categories include official life, women of moral integrity and miscellaneous (doctors, geomancy, monk, divination, ranger, etc.). It strives to restore lively and vivid regional characters in the form of the case analysis, through which its creation characteristic will be found.Chapter Three studies on the writing features and artistic characteristics of creation of the epitaphs and biographies.It objectively analysizes the pros and cons of creation of the biographies from point of view of the subject selection, structure of writing and pen features. Meanwhile it summarizes the artistic characteristics of biographies in the combine of historian consciousness of the author.It mainly discusses the regional cultural characteristics which can be found in Wu Ziyu’s inscriptions. It mainly introduces the reflection of cultural value in Huizhou by discussing the clan system, economic improvement, relationship between businessmen and scholars, businessmen and Japanese pirates and artistic character.
