The publication of Tar Baby in 1973 marked a breakthrough for Toni Morrison. In this novel,Morrison deeply describes not only the internal problems and conflicts of the black community, but also the identity anxiety of the white people in a developed industrial society and the serious consequences of technological alienation, revealing and criticizing the reality of the overall alienation of capitalist society and the essence of globalization.Based on the one-dimension theory, this thesis makes a systematic analysis of Tar Baby, exploring and revealing the manifestation of technology alienation, the causes of technology alienation and how to eliminate technology alienation.Through the analysis of these main aspects,it can be seen that Morrison exposes the same spiritual predicament encountered by both the whites and the blacks and sets the novel outside the United States, upon observing that industrial civilization became the main driving force of alienation of science and technology advancement, further controlling the social each domain, including the ideological field[x1].People who indulge themselves in the infinite pursuit of material success instead of their self-worth will lose the ability to deny and criticize, and become one-dimension people. This situation will continue to spread along with the process of globalization, which deserves our vigilance.
