As architecture gradually steps into Industry 4.0,people now are beginning to get rid of traditional paradigms and reconstruct the architectural exterior design in a new way.As a result,parametric techniques emerge itself so as to meet people's needs.Among these parametric technique companies,as a newly developing parametric technology pioneer,THEVERYMANY cooperative society has conducted transboundary designs among various disciplines including art,architect,computer,etc.Moreover,it has also drew much social attention with its self-owned self-supporting surfaces parametric devices.This paper has firstly analyzed the development of self-supporting surfaces,the combination between parametric techniques and space devices as well as the application of self-supporting surfaces on parametric devices,by making the self-supporting surfaces parametric devices of the THEVERYMANY as the research subject.Secondly,this paper has reorganized the development experiences and design concepts of THEVERYMANY,thus understanding its core concepts for designing.Moreover,it has analyzed and interpreted the device works from various aspects,including the exploration and development of structural surface,the evolution of its form and the application of the materials and investigated the generating and segmentation algorithm.Finally,it has conducted self-supporting surfaces parametric device design experiment with artistic forms from the perspectives of design location,form generating,construction logic and the design expression,while surrounding the topic of “device design of Binshui view in Greenery Theme Park” and focusing on the perspective of “self-supporting surface parametric device”.By summarizing the theoretical research and design experiment of THEVERYMANY's self-supporting parametric device,this paper has provided new ideas and strategies for designing complex surfaces and spaces.
