Teachers’ emotional labor plays an important role in achieving teaching objectives and alleviating job burnout. It is an important research topic in educational psychology. As physical education teachers with high emotional workers,it is of great significance to study the current situation of their emotional labor. In this study, physical education teachers who are currently engaged in physical education teaching in primary and secondary schools are randomly selected as the survey object, and the current situation and relationship of emotional labor, professional identity and job burnout of physical education teachers are taken as the research object. The questionnaire method and empirical research method were mainly used to collect relevant data, and the SPSS statistical software was used to analyze and process the collected data, aiming to explore the current situation of emotional labor, burnout and professional identity of physical education teachers in China and the relationship between them. The results of the test of differences in demographic variables for each study variable showed significant differences in some of the demographic variables, the results of the correlation analysis of emotional labor, burnout, and professional identity showed significant correlations among all three of them, and the results of the test of mediating effects indicated that physical education teachers’ emotional labor had a partially mediating role in the relationship between the influence of their professional identity on burnout.Further analysis revealed that:(1)Physical education teachers often used emotional labor strategies in the teaching process,of which two strategies, deep performance and authentic expression, were more frequently used;physical education teachers’ overall professional identity was high, their overall burnout level was moderate or below, and there was some burnout phenomenon.(2)There were significant differences in physical education teachers’ emotional labor by gender, age, marital status, education, and years of teaching experience,as well as in the teaching they primarily undertake and the location of their schools; There were significant differences in physical education teachers’ professional identity by marital status, education, years of teaching experience, and the location of their schools; There were differences in physical education teachers’ burnout by marital status, age, years of teaching experience, and education,as well as by the location of their schools, whether they administrative positions and primary teaching responsibilities also differed significantly.(3)Physical education teachers’ emotional labor was significantly and positively related to their professional identity and negatively related to their burnout, and physical education teachers’ professional identity was negatively and significantly related to their burnout.(4)Deep performance had a mediating role in career values predicting depersonalization and low personal fulfillment;authentic expression had a mediating role in role values predicting emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and career values predicting depersonalization and low personal fulfillment, and professional behavioral tendencies predicting low personal fulfillment.Based on the findings obtained, five areas of development are proposed for the current situation of physical education teachers’ emotional labor, burnout, and professional identity and the correlations among them. Finally, the limitations in several aspects such as sample data collection and research subjects are pointed out,and the relevant shortcomings and the prospects for future research are pointed out. |
