Teaching materials are the main basis for teachers’ teaching and important tools for students’ learning. As an important part of the teaching materials, the textbook exercises reflect the quality of the whole teaching materials to a certain extent, and have important research value in the implementation of core literacy and"reducing the burden and increasing the efficiency".On the one hand, this study aims to enrich the theoretical research system of textbook exercises and provide a reference basis for their content development;on the other hand, under the policy of "double reduction",we propose improvement suggestions for teachers’ problems in the process of using exercises to help them improve their teaching effectiveness. This paper uses content analysis, questionnaires and interviews to study the use of exercises in the upper primary mathematics textbooks and their use by teachers before and after the "double reduction" policy.Firstly,a content analysis was conducted to understand the specific situation of the exercises in terms of quantity, type, difficulty, presentation, and core literacy of mathematics;secondly, questionnaires and interviews were used to investigate the use of exercises by upper primary mathematics teachers in H city before and after the"double reduction" policy. The findings of the study are as follows.1.The design characteristics of the textbook exercises:the number of exercises in each chapter of the textbook is unevenly distributed;the types of exercises are diverse, but the traditional types of questions dominate, while the proportion of other types of questions is low,and the openness and practicality are not enough;the overall difficulty of the textbook exercises is low,and the utilization rate of knowledge synthesis is the lowest;the subjects of the exercises are mostly in the zero and third person, and the sentences of expression are mostly declarative and interrogative;the textbook exercises The exercises reflect the six core literacies of mathematics unevenly, and the polarization phenomenon is too obvious,in which the amount of exercises at the level of mathematical abstraction, intuitive image and mathematical operation is high, while the amount of exercises at the level of logical reasoning, mathematical modeling and data analysis is low.2.Teachers’ knowledge and use of textbook exercises under the "double reduction" policy:After the "double reduction" policy, compared with before the"double reduction" policy, teachers’ knowledge of textbook exercises as a whole Most of the teachers’ use and utilization of textbook exercises decreased, and some teachers’use of textbook exercises was too simplified and lacked innovation.Based on the above findings, this study suggests that in the preparation of textbook exercises, the types of exercises should be enriched to make students’learning styles more diversified;the difficulty of the exercises should be appropriately adjusted to focus on the utilization of the comprehensive knowledge of the exercises;and the distribution of the textbook exercises reflecting the six core literacies of mathematics should be appropriately adjusted. For teachers, they should improve the enthusiasm of using textbook exercises;broaden the breadth of using textbook exercises;and improve the innovation of using textbook exercises. |
