Since 2005,a professional master’s degree in sports major has been added in China,which is an effective supplement to the training of academic master’s talents.Compared with academic master’s degree,there are great differences in training objectives and training methods.Its purpose is to train applied and skilled sports talents for the country and society,focusing on students’ professional skills and practical ability.Firstly,the meaning of professional ability is defined,and at the same time,combined with the training objectives and professional needs of professional ability in the three research directions of Master of Physical Education,an operable definition is given.This paper explores the three dimensions of professional ability training(professional knowledge,professional skills and professional attitude),and analyzes two universities in Xi ’an which established the master’s degree of physical education earlier through questionnaire survey and field interview,focusing on the curriculum setting,teaching form,internship practice,thesis writing,tutor guidance and supervision,etc.,from which the problems and reasons in training the professional ability of the master’s degree of physical education in the emerging stage are sorted out,and targeted improvement countermeasures are put forward.The research results are as follows.(1)At present,the two schools have strengthened the proportion of practical courses in curriculum setting,and increased the proportion of scientific research methods,tool courses,elective courses of physical education skills and dynamic courses of cutting-edge research in subject fields,so the curriculum structure tends to be reasonable.However,the teaching methods do not highlight the goal of training practical talents for physical education masters,and teaching methods such as case teaching,group teaching and teacher-student discussion are still insufficient.(2)Internship practice.The internship practice system is formulated in strict accordance with the national regulations,but there are shortcomings in the two standards of internship quality and internship time in actual operation.Different internship units in student areas are not arranged according to different development directions of different professional fields,especially considering students’ future employment direction according to their aptitude;At the same time,there is no uniform evaluation standard for the guidance of dissertations and practical courses in off-campus practice bases and practical instructors.(3)Thesis writing.At present,the problems in the topic selection of sports master’s degree thesis are more prominent,and the homogenization phenomenon with academic graduate students is serious.It is not closely related to the problems in practical work such as physical education,sports training,competition organization and management,and social sports guidance.At the same time,the proportion of papers written in the form of special research reports,sports training programs and research,classic case analysis and large-scale sports activities is not high.(4)Relevant vocational qualification training and certification,as well as inadequate employment guidance services in schools,and because of the low recognition of professional degrees in society,some professional master students have a deviation in their professional identity,and their professional attitudes are affected,resulting in the lack of a correct professional view in choosing jobs and employment.In view of the above problems,the corresponding countermeasures are put forward.
