| Relative deprivation is a kind of subjective cognition and emotional experience in which individuals or groups perceive themselves to be at a disadvantage after comparing with the reference individuals or groups, and then experience negative emotions such as anger and dissatisfaction, which has a certain negative impact on the individual’s physical and mental health and behavior. With the further development of society, the differences between individuals have become greater. For college students, they are not mature physically and mentally, and it is easy for them to compare with their peers. When they find themselves at a disadvantage, they are prone to a sense of relative deprivation, which affects their cognition, emotion and decision-making behavior. Therefore, exploring the relative deprivation of college students is of great significance to the development of college students’ physical and mental health.Based on existing theories and research at home and abroad, through literature analysis, questionnaire surveys and other methods,a set of relative deprivation scales for Chinese college students have been compiled, and the relative deprivation have been investigated, and the relationship between relative deprivation, belief in a just world, and prosocial behaviors were discussed. The research conclusions are as follows:(1)The self-compiled relative deprivation scale consists of 17 items, including four dimensions: academic aspects, economic aspects, interpersonal aspects, and external image aspects. The scale has good reliability and validity, and can be used as a tool to measure the relative deprivation of college students;(2)The relative deprivation of college students is at a medium and low level. In terms of gender, there are significant differences in the total scores of relative deprivation, academic aspects and external image aspects;in terms of whether the only child or not, there are significant differences in the economic and interpersonal aspects. In terms of grade, the relative deprivation of sophomores is significantly higher than that of freshmen and juniors, and there is no significant difference in other aspects;(3)Belief in a just world can negatively predict the relative deprivation of college students, and positively predict the pro-social behavior while the relative deprivation of college students can negatively predict the pro-social behavior. The three variables are related in pairs. The relative deprivation of college students plays a partial mediating role between belief in a just world and pro-social behavior, and the mediation effect accounted for 12.93%of the total effect. |
