Abstract/Summary:
Researchers began to study delayed gratification since Michelle carried out the candy experiment. However, initially, the aim is to predict the future development of infants and young children based on their ability to delay gratification. Then, the academic delay of gratification dedicated to the study of students is proposed.Until 2007,when Liu Xiaoyan defined vocational delayed gratification and designed its measurement questionnaire, the research on vocational delayed gratification swept through our country. There are many studies devoted to the factors affecting vocational delayed gratification. The results of external factors include employee training to improve the ability of vocational delayed gratification, the experience of individual rejection, generational differences in the process of social development, and so on.And,the research results of internal influencing factors are neurotic personality, conscientious characteristics, general self-efficacy,position of job control point, level of self-esteem,emotional characteristics, current stage of vocational development and plan, etc. At the same time, the sense of power is an important perception that accompanies individuals. Some studies have shown that employees with different sense of power have different work performance. For example, individuals with a high sense of power are more likely to give advice to their leaders and so on.However, there are no previous studies on the relationship between the sense of power and vocational delayed gratification. Therefore, this paper attempts to explore the relationship between them.In addition, the previous studies on vocational delayed gratification take employees as the object, but the current employment situation is complex and changeable, and college students are a large group that is about to enter the job.In fact,it is necessary to take college students as the object to study vocational delayed gratification. This study takes college students as the research object to explore whether their sense of power has an impact on vocational delayed gratification, based on the Behavioral Approach-Inhibition System and the Situated Focus Theory of Power(Research shows that the power stimulates the individual’s willingness to act and can predict the individual’s action orientation.),and then explore the mechanism behind this relationship.Vocational delayed gratification is an important part of organizational citizenship behavior.Individuals show organizational citizenship behavior can often be praised by others especially their superiors and helps to establish a good personal image.Everyone wants to be positively evaluated by others and always tries to avoid negative evaluation. This psychological phenomenon is impression management. If individuals have positive impression management, tend to be an example of others or try to play an exemplary role. These are the performance of showing their own good image. In other words, impression management will affect an individual’s vocational delayed gratification performance. To sum up,this study also explores how impression management adjusts the influence of power on vocational delayed gratification. In this study, the questionnaire method was used to investigate the data of four research variables in four universities in Changsha, with a total of 681 questionnaires on mobile phones, and remained 660 questionnaires excluding invalid questionnaires. This study uses SPSS 22.0 and Process3.3 to explore whether the sense of power has an impact on vocational delayed gratification, whether the mechanism behind this effect is action-oriented style, and whether impression management adjusts the main effect path.Research hypothesis as follows:(1)the sense of power significantly predicts vocational delayed gratification.(2)the sense of power significantly predicts the action orientation(3)action orientation significantly predicts vocational delayed gratification.(4)action orientation plays an intermediary role in the influence of power on vocational delayed gratification.(5)the level of impression management plays a moderating role in the influence of sense of power on vocational delayed gratification. Conclusion : Action orientation plays an intermediary role between sense of power and vocational delayed gratification, and the predictive effect of power sense on vocational delayed gratification is different at different levels of impression management. Finally, the article analyzes the shortcomings of this study, and puts forward some suggestions for the future research direction.
