Generation And Intervention Of Family Elder Abuse

Family elder abuse is a universal social problem.According to a statement from the World Health Organization in 2017,about one sixth of the elderly suffer from some form of abuse.With the acceleration of the aging process in China,the situation of family elder abuse is also emerging.In the context of home-based care,family has become the main field of elder abuse.Abuse has various forms and serious degree,which brings great threat to the physical and mental health of the elderly and disturbs the social stability and prosperity.However,there are few studies on the evolution model of the generation and intervention of family elder abuse.Based on this,this paper introduces the text analysis method,uses the qualitative analysis software NVivo11 to code the criminal judgment documents about family elder abuse from 2013 to 2020,and deeply discusses the problem of family elder abuse from two aspects of behavior generation and intervention.The conclusions are as follows.The generation of family elder abuse behavior is a process of actual abuse behavior triggered by motivation.Under the influence of the personal characteristics of the abused elderly,family abusers and family disputes,family abusers may have negative emotions and abuse behaviors.Abusive behaviors include physical abuse,mental abuse,economic abuse and neglect.Different motivations lead to different types of abuse.Physical abuse mainly includes beating,slapping,stabbing and so on;mental abuse includes abusive,threatening,insulting and restricting personal freedom;economic abuse includes destroying and occupying property;neglect includes not providing daily necessities,not providing medical care,not taking care of the elderly,forbidding others to help and abandoning the elderly.The intervention process of family elder abuse is a complex dynamic process,which includes the discovery of family abuse,the treatment from each subject and the judicial intervention.Family abuse is mainly found by the abused elderly,abusers,family members,neighbors and public power.The subjects choose different ways to deal with the fact of elder abuse.The abused elderly chooses to seek help from the judiciary,government departments,escape from the abusive environment and even commit suicide to get rid of abuse.Family members usually call the police,inform village cadres,send the elderly to hospital or conceal the fact of abuse to deal with this problem.The neighbors mainly deal with this problem by calling the police,informing the village committee or neighborhood committee,calling the family members,seeking social help for the elderly and dissuading abusive behaviors.The public power mainly deals with the problem of elder abuse by calling the police,mediating,sending to doctors,investigating,educating abusers,reporting to higher authorities,encouraging the elderly to go home,urging abusers to correct and holding a resolution.However,those intervention ways are mostly ineffective,the elderly continue to suffer from family abuse.Until serious consequences such as slight injury,serious injury and even death occur,the judicial authorities will intervene in the elder abuse.According to the consequences of abuse,the abuser will be convicted and sentenced,forced to deduct alimony,assist the elderly and family abusers to reach an alimony agreement,and require the abuser to compensate for economic losses.Based on the evolution process of the behavior generation and intervention of elder domestic abuse,this thesis proposes an assessment and intervention framework for elder domestic abuse from the perspective of social work,in order to provide a useful reference for the prevention and treatment of elder domestic abuse.The evaluation framework introduces the scale for screening abuse and the detail information that should be collected;the intervention framework includes support services,education and training services,family services,referral services and mediation services.Among them,support services,education and training services,family services and referral services are provided by social workers,while mediation services are provided by social workers and public power departments.
