Research On Employment Effect Of Service Industry Embedded In Global Value Chain

With the development of the international production division system,the global value chain reflects that the international trade pattern has changed from inter-industry trade to intra-product trade.Under the trend of service-oriented trade,the employment performance of the service industry embedded in the global value chain has increasingly become a research focus.China’s participation in global value chain has promoted its employment scale and structure,but the specific circumstances of different industries are different.Based on the UIBE GVC Index database and domestic statistical yearbooks,this paper measures the GVC indicators of China’s service industry as a whole and classified industries,expounds the status of employment,and preliminary analyzes the relationship between the two.On this basis,the empirical method was used to further analyze the timely and follow-up impact of the global value chain embedding on the overall service industry employment,as well as the different effects on the classification industry employment.The research results show that:(1)Deepening GVC participation can increase the demand for skilled labor,but it can’t offset the decrease in unskilled labor,resulting in a negative effect on the overall employment scale and structure of China’s service industry.The position index has different impact on employment scale and structure.(2)Different GVC indicators have different impacts on the overall employment in subsequent years,reflecting a more profound impact on the employment scale and a more timely impact on the employment structure.(3)Productive service industry has a more positive effect on employment when participating in GVC than living service industry and public service industry.The situation of the three is similar in terms of employment structure.(4)The labor-intensive service industry’s GVC index has a greater impact on the employment structure than the technology-intensive service industry,and the impact of both industries on employment is consistent with the overall situation.Based on the research conclusions,this article makes recommendations.
