As one of the three driving forces of economic growth, consumption plays an important role in promoting national economic growth.According to the theory of macroeconomics, consumption can be divided into domestic consumption and foreign consumption. The impact of the world economic crisis has brought about the continuous decline of export or foreign consumption,so China’s economic growth must be changed to be dominated by domestic demand. What needs to be noted, however,is that household consumption is severely inadequate and its contribution to economic growth is limited. As the main body of market economic activities and consumption, population development plays a crucial role in expanding domestic demand and promoting national economic growth. In order to complete the transformation of economic growth faster and better and effectively stimulate domestic demand,it is necessary to conduct an in-depth study on the impact of population factors on household consumption from the perspective of population. Therefore, this paper divides population change into three categories, namely natural change of population, social change of population and migration change of population, and analyzes the influence of population factors on residents’ consumption on the basis of existing research results. This paper is divided into six chapters to specifically study the impact of population factors on residents’ consumption. The first chapter is the introduction, which firstly introduces the research background, introduces the research purpose and significance, then introduces the research ideas, contents and research methods, and finally summarizes the innovation and shortcomings of this paper. The second chapter is the literature review and theoretical basis at home and abroad.Firstly, the concepts of consumption and population are defined. Then, the research results of population and consumption at home and abroad are systematically sorted out,and the existing results are briefly reviewed. Finally, three theories related to this research are introduced. The third chapter analyzes the changing trend of Chinese residents’ consumption, which is described from the aspects of residents’ consumption level and consumption structure respectively. It finds that Chinese residents’ consumption demand is generally low,but the consumption structure of residents is optimized to some extent, which is reflected in the increase of the proportion of enjoying consumption expenditure. The fourth chapter analyzes the trend of population change in China, which is described from three aspects: natural population change, social population change and population migration change. It finds that the trend of natural population change is that the population reproduction type changes to the modern type, the population aging process accelerates, and the population gender structure continues to be unbalanced. The trend of population social change is family structure become smaller and education structure is more optimized; The change trend of population migration is that population urbanization is in the period of accelerated development, but the level is relatively low and the "incomplete urbanization" is obvious. The fifth chapter is an empirical analysis of the influence of population factors on residents’ consumption structure.Firstly, the grey correlation analysis method is used to analyze the correlation degree between population factors and residents’ consumption structure, and then the influence of population factors on residents’ consumption structure is empirically tested by static fixed effect model and dynamic GMM model respectively. The results show that the variables reflecting the natural changes of population have a greater impact on the subsistence consumption expenditure, the variables reflecting the social changes of population have an impact on the residents’ subsistence consumption, enjoyment consumption and development consumption, and the variables reflecting the changes of population migration mainly have an impact on the residents’ enjoyment consumption and development consumption. The sixth chapter is the conclusion and countermeasure.According to the research results of this paper, suggestions include adjusting and improving the family planning policy, strengthening the development of the elderly industry, optimizing the population education structure, improving the quality of urbanization, further improving the social security system and reducing the restriction of credit on residents’ consumption.
