| China’s energy consumption increases year by year, which may not only lead to the shortage of resources and the damage of environment and climate, but may also relate to China’s future sustainable development. In the past, most of researches on the relationship between population and energy consumption focused on how the macroeconomic indicators such as population size, age structure and population urbanization rate affected energy consumption, while the researches done on micro level–household level were relatively few. This paper analyzes CFPS micro-household survey data by means of multiple regression. And the author is trying to get a theory of which and how demographic factors affect family energy consumption. In addition, this paper sorts household energy consumption into direct and indirect energy consumption.By indirect energy the scholars usually mean that the consumption of non-energy goods in essence still consume energy because the manufacture of the commodity still consumes energy, that is,indirect consumption of energy. This form of indirect energy consumption is increasingly valued by researchers in various disciplines. As a matter of data accessibility this study takes Consumer Lifestyle Approach as the method of data analysis of indirect energy consumption. In this paper,a multiple regression model is established to analyze the influence of characteristics of family on household energy consumption, including household population size, household income, urban or rural type, economical area of family, the level of education and age structure of family members. This study draws a couple meaningful conclusions: 1,regardless of direct energy consumption or indirect energy consumption, the family type of urban or rural, family income are key factors.2,Direct and indirect energy consumption have unique impact of household characteristics, for example direct energy consumption’s income elasticity is less than indirect energy consumption;on electricity, north or south factor is relatively more important, and on indirect energy consumption, the age of the family members and the size of the family are more important.3,In the terms of the characteristics of different regions, the income factor is a more important factor in eastern and northeastern regions than the urban or rural factor, the central and western regions are the opposite. These conclusions provide a meaningful theoretical basis and a new direction for China to formulate a more equitable and meticulous family energy policy. |
