Around the 1990 s,in the context of the era of accelerating rural tax and fee reform and urbanization,the layout and structure of rural schools had to be changed.Governments at all levels have to run highly concentrated and efficient township boarding schools because of the pressure of finance and degree supply.Poor families have to choose to live in school because of the long distance to school.At the same time,the logical connection between the three “have to” is not a onedimensional establishment.The factual boarding behavior has a demonstrative effect,so that the demand for boarding continues to increase and it reversely promotes the spontaneous development and development of township boarding schools and further promote the adjustment of the layout and structure of rural schools.As a result,the rapid expansion of township boarding schools and boarding student groups has become an important starting point for the government to strengthen the construction of rural compulsory education,which is related to the realization of the goal of "doing a good education that satisfies the people".However,in recent years,there has been a growing criticism of the boarding system in academia and society,and some extremists even believe that boarding at school can only harm the development of students.There is no doubt that denying the positive effect of school boarding on academic performance touches the core interest of rural host families that are "forced to board but not disgusted",thus breaking the above-mentioned reverse logical chain.However,can students’ boarding at school improve their academic performance?Through combing the literature on boarding system,academic performance,boarding and academic performance,this research comprehensively selects least squares regression(OLS),propensity score matching method(PSM),interactive regression analysis and other methods,The specific effects of boarding on academic performance were tested.The results of the study found that the boarding rate of township boarding schools is high and group differences are obvious;boarding at school has a significant positive effect on the academic performance of junior three students,and the effect on mathematics literacy is greater than reading literacy;boarding at school has a significant impact on students’ academic performance The impact is heterogeneous.It can overcome disadvantages such as staying behind and the distance between home and school,and it can also offset the positive impact from family background.Based on research conclusions and relevant interview materials,it is recommended to increase support for township boarding schools,standardize the development of boarding schools,and meet the boarding needs of students;secondly,eliminate the stubborn disease of the score-only theory,guide boarders to board rationally,and improve The subject curriculum system and life education curriculum of five education simultaneously promote the all-round development of boarding students;the third is to innovate the township boarding school management system,and work together to build a good situation of homeschool education.In general,township boarding schools are an educational tool and an educational compensation mechanism.Therefore,if the underlying logic of the lack of educational resources in the western rural areas cannot be fundamentally changed,the dominant position of the township boarding school model cannot be shaken.It will continue to perform the basics to ensure the fairness of the starting point of compulsory education,and further undertake the task of achieving high-quality and balanced compulsory education in the new era..Of course,the development of students in the township boarding field is a very complicated issue,and further research is needed.
