Since the middle of 1990 s, a large-scale rural labor have moved to urban from country. Some of them brought their children to live with them in the city, while the others left their kids in the rural. Thus, these children had to cope with many complex factors such as environment changing or living apart with their parents when they are growing up, and behind this situation, they might face a prominent problem in life, including learning, psychology, etc. Therefore, this vulnerable group, children of migrant workers, has come into public’s concern today. From the academic influence point of view, by pairwise comparison of the left-behind children, migrant children, non-left-behind children and urban local children, using survey data from China Education Panel Survey(CEPS), the paper deeply analysis the influence on children academic achievements of being left-behind and migrant by propensity score matching method. This research shows that:(1) Children in cities performed much better than rural children. There are significant differences in the characteristic variables of individuals, families, schools and districts(2) Left-behind has a negative significant impact on children mathematics and English score.(3) The difference between urban and rural can adversely affect the performance of children cognitive test and English.(4) The impact of migrant is positive to the academic achievement of children. In conclusion, the left-behind effects and the rural-urban differences have an obviously negative impact on performance of academic. But, compare with left-behind children, the performance of migrant children apparently improved, which shows that children living with their parents is a better choice than being left-behind. Therefore, under the main trend of population flowing from rural to urban, we need to allow and encourage the left-behind children to migrate with his parents together, and safeguard their rights to be educated well.
