With the rapid development of society, the profession of social work comes into being.Especially in developed first-tier cities, such as Beijing,Shanghai and Guangzhou, social work organizations have developed rapidly. However, the turnover rate of social workers is high, and many social workers are faced with the problem of job burnout, which will not be conducive to the cultivation of professional social work team and also affect the social work team to provide good services to community residents.Previous studies focused more on social workers and put forward countermeasures to alleviate job burnout, but less on the level of social work organizations. In addition, social work organizations are non-profit organizations, and their work is to provide services for the community residents, but the past research has rarely studied the public service motivation of social workers. In addition, social workers need to use more emotional labor in their work. Therefore, this study aims to explore the influence path of social workers’ public service motivation and emotional labor on perceived organizational support and job burnout. To test the hypotheses in our model,we conducted a survey on 367 social workers in Guangdong Province, which uses the Organizational Support Perception Scale,Job Burnout Scale,Public Service Motivation Scale, and Emotional Labor Scale.Drawing on the theory of resource preservation,we attempt to explore social workers’ public service motivation and emotional labor play a chain intermediary role among perceived organizational support and job burnout.Specifically,we found support for our arguments as follows:(1)Perceived organizational support has a significant negative correlation with job burnout and has a significant positive relationship with public service motivation;(2)Surface acting has a significant positive relationship with job burnout;(3)Deep acting has a significant negative correlation with job burnout;(4)Public service motivation and deep acting play a chain intermediary role between organizational support and job burnout. This study contributes to the theoretical and empirical literature in the following ways.First,we extend the research scope of perceived organizational support on job burnout to social workers.Second, from the perspective of the resource preservation theory,it supplements the relevant theoretical explanation of job burnout. Finally, from the perspective of the practice, this study combines the characteristics of social workers with the public service motivation and emotional labor, and explores the influence path between perceived organizational support and job burnout, which has certain enlightening significance to intervene social workers’ job burnout.
