Background: the term "Shi Du parents" refers to parents whose only child dies and who no longer bear,cannot bear or are unwilling to adopt.Not only do these parents suffer the trauma of losing their only child,they are also under financial pressure to support themselves,and lead to suffer from severe depressive symptoms.In China,the number of Shi Du parents who have lost their only child is large,so it is urgent to pay attention to their mental health status and help them improve their life satisfaction and quality.Objectives:(1)To describe psychological resilience,coping style and depressive symptom in Shi Du parents who lost the only child(2)to explore the the heterogeneity of depressive symptoms and the influence of psychological resilience and coping style on the depression of Shi Du parents who lost the only child(3)To investigate the relationship between psychological resilience,coping style and depressive symptom in Shi Du parents who lost the only child.Methods: 182 Shi Du parents who lost the only childcompleted the General information questionnaire,Self-rating depression scale(SDS),Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC),Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ)in Hunan province.Among them,70 were males,accounting for 38.5%,and 112 were females,accounting for 61.5%.The average age was 59.93±7.417 years old,and more than half of the Shi Du parents who lost only child had a monthly income of less than 2,000 yuan.Results:(1)68.7% of Shi Du parents who lost their only child had significant depressive symtoms,and their psychological resilience was generally low,and they were more inclined to adopt negative coping style.(2)Psychological resilience,coping style and depressive symptoms were not correlated with gender,age,marital status,home address and educational level,but parents with high monthly income had higher psychological resilience and lower depressive symptoms.(3)There was significant heterogeneity between the depressive symptoms and those of Shi Du parents who lost their only child,which could be divided into the group with High depression-pessimistic group,Medium-mixed depression group,and Well-adjusted group.The level of psychological resilience and positive coping style was lower and the level of negative coping was higher in the group with high depressive symptoms.(4)Positive/negative coping style has moderating effect between psychological resilience and depressive symptoms in Shi Du parents who have lost their only child.With the growth of positive coping styles,the negative prediction of psychological resilience on depression symptoms of Shi Du parents increases.With the increase of negative coping styles,the negative prediction of psychological resilience on depression symptoms of Shi Du parents weakens.Conclusion: The depression symptoms of parents who have lost their only child are obvious and there is different subtypes.High levels of psychological resilience and positive coping style were protective factors for depressive symptoms in Shi Du parents who lost their only child,while high levels of negative coping style were risk factors for depressive symptoms.Therefore,we can promote psychological resilience and improve use of positive coping methods of Shi Du parents who have lost child can from three approaches: the government,the community and individuals,and to help Shi Du parents who have lost their only child reduce the occurrence of depressive symptoms. |
