Motor development is the cornerstone of people’s healthy development, childhood is the best time to develop motor skills for gross muscles, having a good level of development of gross motor movements will help children learn and master various complex motor skills in the future. At present, there is no research on the development of children’s gross motor movement in Guangxi, which provides an exploration space for this paper.Purpose: Through the assessment of gross motor development level of children aged 7 ~ 9 in Nanning city, the characteristics of gross motor development of children were identified, and the differences in age and sex of children’s gross motor development were distinguished,so as to provide reference evidence for the development of effective teaching plans. Methods: The third American gross motor development scale(Test of Gross Motor Development-3rd Edition)was selected as the measuring tool, and 457 students aged from 7 to 9 years old were selected by stratified random sampling from Nanning xinji road primary school and the second primary school in Wutang town.Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the scores of each action of children, and the independent sample T test was used to find the differences between sex and age groups. Results: 1、The result of gross Motor Proficiency in children,In the locomotor skill test,sliding(0.78)and running(0.70)have the highest movement proficiency, and skipping(0.46)have the weakest movement proficiency. In the object control skill test,catching(0.81)and dribbling(0.77)have the highest movement proficiency. The proficiency of two hand strike(0.52),overhand throw(0.50)and one hand strike(0.44)was weak.2、Results of age differences in gross motor development in children, locomotor skills(0.60,0.65,0.71),object control skill(0.59,0.63,0.70)proficiency of three groups of children aged 7,8 and 9 with age increase,The growth is significantly different(P <0.05).The growth rate characteristics of various movements between different ages,7 to 8 year-old,run,slide,horizontal jump, gallop, dribble, and running kick movement proficiency increased significantly, showing a significant difference(P <0.05),Skip,Hop,catching,overhand throw,Underhand throw, two hand strike and one hand strike have a smaller increase in proficiency, and there is no significant difference(P> 0.05).8 to 9 year-old,run,slide,hop,Skip,Underhand throw, running kick, two hand strike, dribbling and one hand strike movement proficiency increased significantly, showing a significant difference(P <0.05),In addition, the increase of the proficiency of gallop, horizontal jump, and overhand throw was small, with no significant difference(P>0.05).Every project between 7-9 years old has growth(P <0.05).3、Results of gender difference in children’s locomotor skill development: In the three age groups of 7,8 and 9 years old, girls’ scores(27.52±4.02,30.34±3.40,33.40±3.28)were all higher than boys’ scores(27.34±4.80,29.63±3.46,32.25±4.07),with no significant difference(P>0.05).There were significant differences in individual events. For example, the skip event at 8 and 9 years old,the score of female students(2.96±1.44,3.90±1.02)was higher than that of male students(2.37±1.53,2.82±1.42),showing a significant gender difference(P<0.05).The horizontal jump event at 8 and 9 years old,the score of male students(5.35±0.92,5.71±1.13)was higher than that of female students(4.77±1.19,4.93±1.61),showing a significant gender difference(P<0.05).4、Results of gender difference in children’s object control skill development: In the three age groups of 7,8 and 9 years old, boys’ scores(32.85±4.25,35.29±4.05,38.80±3.58)were all higher than girls’ scores(29.18±3.81,30.43±4.05,35.09±3.76),presenting significant differences(P<0.05).There was no gender difference in individual test items. For example, one hand strike item at 7 years old, boys scored(3.56±1.30)higher than girls(3.07±1.23),but there was no gender difference(P>0.05).In the catch item of three age groups, boys scored(4.70±1.11,4.90±0.98,2.26±0.98)higher than girls(4.63±1.20,4.83±1.16,4.93±1.18),but there was no gender difference(P> 0.05).At the age of 9,there was no significant difference between girls and boys in the four operational skills: catch, dribbling, running kick, two hand strike(P>0.05).Conclusion: 1、The horizontal characteristics of gross motor development of children aged 7 ~ 9 years in Nanning city are that different items show unbalanced development characteristics, and individual differences exist in the performance of the same item. The proficiency of motor skills is closely related to the sports that children often come into contact with in daily life, the accumulated sports experience and the teaching content of campus sports.2、The age characteristics of gross motor development of children aged 7-9 years in Nanning city are that motor skills are constantly improved with the growth of age.The movement development of different items shows their own characteristics,7~8 years old is the children run, slide, horizontal jump, gallop, dribble, running kick of the rapid development period. At the age of 8~9,most of the motor skills entered the rapid development period,However,Gallop, horizontal jump and overhand throwing show slow development in this age group.3、The gender characteristics of gross motor development of children aged 7-9 years in Nanning city are as follows: there is no gender difference between boys and girls in locomotor skills, and gender difference exists in individual test items.Girls are better than boys in jumping events, and boys are better than girls in standing long jump events. In the operational skills, there is gender difference between boys and girls, boys are better than girls in the development of operational skills, there are different gender differences in different age groups, girls began to narrow the gap with boys in the development of operational skills from the age of 9.
