The Glorious Years Of A Veteran Of The Korean War

At the end of the 20th century,China formally entered the era of aging,the population of elderly groups is growing,which takes centre stage of people’s attention.In response to such situation,Communist Party and the state demand that positive coping should be involved in the face of the aging problem and also their physical and mental condition should be looked at closely.After the elderly life ran in the period of advanced age and high incidence of diseases,the function of their organs will be weakened which will turn out the damage for the frequency of social interaction and elderly physical and mental health.Especially,the total population of retired veterans who have made major sacrifices and contributions to the national revolution,reform and development,is declining by 10% per year.They have witnessed the major changes of our society.What’s more,they have gone through the parting with their comrade-in-arms.Therefore,their spiritual life in later years is worthy of our attention.The method of literature research is adopted in this paper.In this paper,Jiangsu veteran L,a soldier fighting the Korean war,is took as the target of investigation to review his whole life course and turning events through his oral history,which will be illustrated in the later parts by using the life course theory.The social workers,tracing the life course of the elderly through interviews,have found the relation among the aging stage,one’s former life experience and turning events,which contributed to the exposure of meaning of elderly life.The illustration of L’s life course is started from the four periods of childhood,adolescence,adulthood and old age so as to find the events in his life experienced at each period,which will make an impact on individuals.Firstly,his childhood was passively influenced by social changes and natural environment.Secondly,the personality was shaped by social setting under the certain time and space in his adolescence.Thirdly,the uniqueness of his life occurred by the selection of personal initiative in his adulthood.Fourthly,the meaning of L’s elderly life is the synergy of his choice and social policy.Due to the retired veteran L’s participation of revolution led by the Communist Party of China in his early years,it turns out not only the sense of honor brought by his status as a soldier but also the optimal rising of this life path.Reviewing the entirely successful life was the course of the retired soldier L,the exploitation of positive meaning of his later years cannot divorced from the guidance and policy support of the Party and the state.
