Abstract/Summary:
China is in a period of social transformation.Various actors have different demands and conflicts occur from time to time.Especially in recent years, social conflicts are open and networked, which makes social governance face challenges.During the COVID-19,a series of severe social conflicts have also been triggered. The two Red Cross Societies in Hubei Province and Wuhan City,as the fund-raising receiving platforms designated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, repeatedly "refuted rumors," "answered questions," and"reviewed and reflected",but they still couldn’t keep up with the speed of public doubts and condemnation and fell into serious problems In the conflict of lack of credibility.Media news reports are an important source for the public to obtain information about the "Red Cross" event in Wuhan. The government is an important channel for the government to understand the public’s opinions on conflict issues. How does the Journalism present and construct this conflict event? Are there hidden emotional tendencies in news discourse? What kind of discourse and social practices did the media conduct in reporting on this conflicting issue?Based on the perspective of the social conflict theory of Coser and Dahrendorf, this article takes the news reports of the Wuhan "Red Cross" incident as the research text, and collects 244 relevant news reports from 13 media.Analyzed the emotional attributes of 34,342 pieces of news from the media monitoring platform of the National Emergency Response Center, and explained the reasons for the 5 Red Cross rumors.According to the conflict drawing of Wehr and Hocker-Wilmot,the conflict structure of the Wuhan "Red Cross" incident was clarified, and the type, intensity and function of the conflict were analyzed in depth. In combination with the "Zhiweishijian" platform, the two major Red Cross events with greater impact were disseminated:"The use of relief supplies of the Hubei Red Cross Society raises questions" and "The three leaders of the Hubei Red Cross Society are held accountable" event.Using Fairclough’s discourse analysis framework,we analyzed the news discourses of central-level mainstream media(represented by People’s Daily Online),local media(represented by Yangtze River Daily),and financial media(represented by Caixin.com).Discourse analysis is carried out at three levels:text, discourse practice, and social practice. In the Wuhan "Red Cross" incident, where the network is reorganized in time and space and social governance is complicated, the voice of the media, the follow-up of professional media, the participation of netizens in discussions, and the implementation of accountability by the government have created a "social expression" ",so that the"social safety valve" can be opened. The reporting agenda of the news media can often guide the direction of conflicts and prompt the decision-making of government departments. The media has repeatedly questioned the Red Cross’s operational system, information disclosure, crisis management and other shortcomings, and has played a role in correcting unreasonable problems. The unique role of official opinion leaders assumes the responsibility of maintaining social order and coordinatin g social relations. In the process of managing social conflicts in the new era,it is necessary to use news media, press conferences and other "megaphones" and "buffers" to reasonably grasp the "social safety valve" system, control the intensity of social conflicts, and reduce the cost of social transformation.
