| The importance of national image is self-evident,among which, the "narrative" of media plays an important role in the process of spreading national image.Among them, the"narrative" of the media plays an important role in the process of spreading the national image.Through strategic narrative, media "package" the national image of a country into the story, and set the context, plot, outcome or solution for the protagonists in the story, thus greatly influencing the presentation of the national image.Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973,China and Spain have maintained sound relations of constant exchanges and communication. However, according to data from the Pew Research Center’s National Image Survey from 2005 to 2017,the overall image of China among Spanish people has been relatively negative and on the decline in recent years. In addition,in the information age,the wide scope of influence of major international events makes it easier for the country at the center of the event to become the focus of international public opinion, thus affecting the image cognition of the international public on a country. In this case, this paper chooses to explore the narrative logic and the national image of China in the reports of the China-related epidemic in the mainstream Spanish media,so as to provide some possible paths and references for the strengthening of China-Spain relations.According to the four elements of strategic narrative, this paper analyzes the text of China-related reports in the Spanish mainstream media, explores what kind of image of China has been constructed by the Spanish mainstream media through strategic narrative, and provides some references and suggestions for Chinese media to break the narrative framework of the country’s media. The body is divided into four chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the research background and significance of the paper, and collates and analyzes the relevant literature. In addition, the research design is elaborated to clarify the theoretical framework for the subsequent writing of the paper. In the second chapter, under the guidance of the strategic narrative theory, the text analysis of the Spanish mainstream media coverage of the China-related epidemic. In accordance with the changing trend of the number of reports and the development trend of the world epidemic, the paper divides the reports of the Spanish epidemic related to China into four stages, and clarifies the narrative construction of the Spanish media in each stage. The third chapter summarizes the characteristics and narrative techniques of China’s national image in the China-relatedepidemic reports, and puts forward some suggestions. The study found that the Spanish media’s coverage of the China-related epidemic can be divided into four stages:the spectator period, the concern period, the contradictory period and the stable period. The report mainly presents the image of China’s politics, including the "frequent problems" of governance, the "contradictions" between the government and the people, and the "ambitious" diplomats. In addition, the report also constructs the national economic image as an important link in the world economy and the national cultural image as a "strong" cultural exporter. The main narrative methods used by Spanish mainstream media include:correlating news facts with historical events, severing the relationship between the Chinese government and the people, and repeatedly inculcating viewpoints to the audience. To this end,Chinese media can actively respond from the aspects of diversified narrative subjects, making good use of "empathy" and grasping "context". |
