The Research On The Adjustment Of ASEAN’s Security Diplomacy And Its Influence In The Post-cold War

In the Post-Cold War,the regional and international situation has changed dramatically.The traditional security issues represented by the South China Sea dispute are intertwined with non-traditional security issues such as financial issues and terrorism,shaking the security environment in Southeast Asia and restricting further development of Southeast Asian countries.In order to deal with the new security issues,ASEAN takes adjustment measures to its security diplomacy as a whole.By adjusting the focus of security diplomacy and changing the implementation path of security diplomacy,ASEAN not only has it succeeded in maintaining the diplomatic achievements of the security diplomacy in the Cold War,but it has also achieved broader security objectives in the Post-Cold War.This paper first sorts out the contents of ASEAN’s security diplomacy in the Cold War,including the focus of diplomacy and the implementation path,and then examines the contents of ASEAN’s security diplomacy in the Post-Cold War,then it studies the reasons of ASEAN’s adjustment to its security diplomacy,which includes internal and external factors.What’s more,it explores the influence of the adjusted ASEAN’s security diplomacy,including positive influence and negative influence.Lastly,the article discusses the impact of the adjusted ASEAN security diplomacy on China,and then discusses the countermeasures of China to Southeast Asia security diplomacy adjustment.In the Post-Cold War,ASEAN has developed security diplomacy with the United States,China,Japan,India and many other countries.In the aspect of the focus of security diplomacy,ASEAN pays more attention to non-traditional security issues,such as financial security and energy security.On the path of adjustment,ASEAN mainly adopts three means: promoting the enlargement of ASEAN,carrying out “the strategy of Great Power Balance”,and establishing multilateral security mechanisms.The long-term diplomatic practice has proved that the adjusted ASEAN security diplomacy is indeed effective.ASEAN has not only effectively guaranteed peace and stability in Southeast Asia,but also enhanced its international status.However,it can’t be denied that due to the fierce competition among the major powers,ASEAN’s dominance is constantly under attack,internal differences are also expanding.
