| Perting New Village is located in Bentong,Pahang,Malaysia.It is a traditional Chinese new village established after the "Emergency Act" in 1948 and maintained up to now.It is also known as "Guangxi Village",because of its majority of ethnic Chinese are from Guangxi.Bentong,where Perting New Village is located,is an important rubber and tin mineral place in the history of Malaysia.Guangxi ethnic Chinese have a long history in this area,as early as the end of the 19 th century,a large number of Chinese from Guangxi came to this area as indentured laborers,at first,they worked in tin mines.In the early 20 th century,with the development of Malaya’s "kingdom of rubber",a large number of Chinese people turned to rubber planting.After the 1960 s and 1970 s,with the end of the "Emergency Act" and development of economy and society,Guangxi ethnic Chinese’s livelihood began to change from single to multiple directions,and practitioners and operators from all walks of life emerged.Tea coffee room,the most common restaurant in Malaysian Chinese society,which is also one of the important livelihood of residents in Perting new village.Based on the field research,using anthropological methods,recording and analyzing the emergence and development of the tea coffee room,the spatial layout,the type of diet,the ordering language,and the social network,found that the tea coffee room is closely related to the traditional Chinese diet and living habits,it keeps pace with the overall development of the new village.The tea coffee room has a variety of diets which including Chinese and western food,and other Malaysian local specialties,reflecting the multi-culture of Malaysia.The management of the tea coffee rooms are usually run by their own families,they are a reflection of the Chinese business wisdom and a vivid example of the traditional Chinese family concept of Confucianism.In addition,from the perspective of the social network,tea coffee rooms are the main meeting places for villagers.The relationship between the operators,the relationship between the operators and the customers,and the relationship between the customers are a kind of trust and reciprocity relationship under a symbiotic network,which not only provides a channel for cohesion,but also cultivates rules of mutual benefit and a spirit of trust and mutual assistance. |
