| Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up,China’s social and economic development has been comprehensive. The strategy of strengthening the country through science and technology has not only changed the appearance of cities, but also changed the traditional mode of production in agriculture, greatly improved the efficiency of production and liberated a large number of rural labor force. At the same time, industrialization and urbanization have brought about a large number of employment opportunities and attracted the rural labor force to the city. However, the individual migration of population from rural to urban areas not only promotes the improvement of the income level of rural residents, but also impacts on the traditional rural family structure and pension mode. What are the characteristics of intergenerational support between children and parents, and how intergenerational support affects the life satisfaction of the elderly, are the basis of our rural family endowment policy.Based on the survey data of CHARLS 2015,this paper conducts an empirical study on how intergenerational support affects the life satisfaction of the elderly through descriptive analysis and sequential Logistic regression analysis.Statistics show that the elderly in rural areas in China are generally satisfied with their quality of life.Under the guidance of the idea of intergenerational support bidirectional flow, the regression analysis finds that :(i)the economic support and care services provided by children can significantly improve the life satisfaction of the elderly in rural areas;Providing financial support and care services to their children had no significant impact on life satisfaction.(ii)the spiritual comfort between the elderly and their children has a significant effect on the improvement of life satisfaction.Regular meeting or regular contact can improve the life satisfaction of the elderly parents.(iii)based on the social exchange theory and equity theory, this study constructed four types of exchange models for economic support and care services. The regression results show that the reciprocity of economic support and the net access to care services can significantly improve the life satisfaction of the elderly, while the regression coefficient of life satisfaction of the elderly without any interaction of care services is significantly negative.Based on the above research conclusions, this paper puts forward corresponding policy Suggestions from three aspects of government, society and family to improve the life satisfaction of the elderly in rural areas,so as to improve the quality of life of the elderly. |
