| After the Vimalakirti Sutra was introduced into China,it was gradually nationalized and became one of the most common Buddhist scripture creations.The period of the Sixteen Kingdoms and the Northern Dynasties was an important period in which the images of Vimalakirti came into being and developed to maturity.During this period,the images of the Vimalakirti Sutras were rich in quantity and of various types in cave temples and statuettes,and a fixed pattern was gradually formed during the propagation process.By discussing the evolution of Vimalakirti images and the process of its influence on the entire Middle-earth Buddhist culture,we can clearly see the acceptance of Buddhism by the secular society and the social culture trends centered on Buddhism during this period.It is of great significance to understand the evolution of visualization of the Buddhist belief.Taking this as the center,we can deeply understand the characteristics of the life of Vimalakirti belief during this period.This paper makes statistics on the images of Vimalakirti in this period,and divides them into single and combined types according to the different shapes,and the classification and discussion are carried out.Then,combined with the Vimalakirti Sutra,it demonstrates the he way of expression mode and meaning of the image,and further discusses the reasons for their development and evolution.Through research,it is found that the change of the image of Vimalakirti is closely related to the social environment and cultural exchanges;at the same time,starting from the positional configuration of the changing image of Vimalakirti Sutra and the surrounding statues or images,the correlation is included in the discussion,and we can conclude that the changes of the combinations of Vimalakirti images and Lotus Sutra images or Pure Land belief images are the performance of belief changes in different periods. |
