| Non-finite clauses are those clauses that contain non-finite verb phrases, and they are usually used in written language. With the special characteristics of none tense marker and none predicate function,non-finite clauses are characterized by the action implications in themselves and play roles in some other grammatical functions.Non-finite clauses are sorted into subordinate clauses, and the subject and finite verb can be omitted in a non-finite clause. All these characteristics signify that we can trace the implied semantics back from the context. As non-finite clauses can play a part in compressing the length of the sentence sometimes,it is necessary for translators to take elaborative consideration toward the structures of these sentences. In conclusion,it has some academic significance to study non-finite clauses. Thus,on the basis of the translation practice Evaluating the Evaluator: A Novel Perspective on Translation Quality Assessment, this thesis launches a study that focuses on the translation of non-finite clauses. In Evaluating the Evaluator: A Novel Perspective on Translation Quality Assessment,we can detect a large quantity of non-finite clauses with complex forms and various structures. This thesis will analyze these translation problems relevant to non-finite clauses. There are various specific translation problems of non-finite clauses issues, including the covert logical subjects, which appear in forms of infinitives and participles, and the diversification of non-finite clauses showing ways which includes two sorts of showing ways.On the one hand,we can detect that only one kind of non-finite clauses repeatedly appear in one long sentence. On the other hand,we can also find different kinds of non-finite clauses showing in one long sentence many a time.Besides, there are also several complex ways for non-finite clauses to connect with subordinate clauses, which involve two sorts of connecting possibilities. For the first situation,we can summarize it as non-finite clause mixing with only one kind of subordinate clauses. For the second situation,it can be concluded as non-finite clauses blending with various kinds of subordinate clauses.Based on the problems above, this thesis concludes a series of solutions consisting of supplemented amplification for the hidden logical subject of infinitive, explicit amplification for the hidden logical subjects of participles, splitting and reorganizing for the repeated appearances of the same type of non-finite clauses in a long sentence, structural adjustment for different types of non-finite clauses mixing in a long sentence, the embedding for the condition in which some non-finite clauses mix with the same kind of subordinate clauses, and the integration for the connections between non-finite clauses and multifold sorts of subordinate clauses. It is hoped that these research findings can provide some references for translating similar problems of non-finite clauses. |
