The text selected in this translation practice is the 16 th chapter of First: Sandra Day O’Connor.This work is a biography written by Evan Thomas,an American best-selling author in 2019 which tells the legendary story of Sandra Day O’Connor,the first female judge of the United States Supreme Court.The 16 th chapter of this work records O’Connor’s life after she stepped down from the Supreme Court,involving politics,law,history and other aspects of the United States.Firstly,the translator introduces the background information of the translation task,analyzes the linguistic features of the source text,and describes the whole process of translation practice.Secondly,the translator analyzes the narrative characteristics and translation difficulties of plot description,description of characters’ words,description of characters’ personality,terminology and professional expression in this work,and summarizes the translation techniques to solve the translation difficulties,such as conversion,paraphrase,inversion,omission,specification,etc.Finally,the translator summarizes the experience gained from this translation practice and puts forward suggestions for future research,hoping to provide some reference for the research of biography translation.
