This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the third chapter ofTranslation, Globalization and Localization-A Chinese Perspective by Wang Ningand Sun Yifeng. The report includes preparation before translation, translationprocedure, case studies, translation techniques, valuable translation summaries. On functional equivalence theory, the author combines sentences to illustrate theuse of related translation techniques. The author adopts lexical conversion method towords translation. To deal with passive sentences translation, the author uses fourmethods:①translate English passive sentences into Chinese active sentences;②translate subject in English passive sentences into object in Chinese sentences;③translate English passive sentences into Chinese passive sentences or similar structure;④translate English passive sentences into Chinese subject-less sentences. Thesyntactic linearity method, inversion method and detachment method are used to dealwith the translation of long and difficult sentences. Then the text translation is guidedby three principles---topic, unity and coherence. As the report reveals, a translator should have a comprehensive understanding oftranslation as a complex inter-lingual and cross-cultural communication processinvolving many aspects. Translators need to attach great importance to the differencesbetween English and Chinese, translation procedure and techniques. It is hoped thatthis report is of some referential value for the translation related to the documents ofsimilar types.
