A Practice Report On Tour Guide Interpretation At Hohhot Historical Sites

With the development of globalization,communication and exchange activities between countries are becoming more and more frequent.Interpretation activities as a cross-language and cross-culture communication bridge which is a basic language communication tool in human life.Tour guide interpretation is an important kind of interpretation,which is very significant in cultural transmission.Tour guide interpreters need to stimulate tourists’ interests and help tourists to know Chinese culture accurately.This is an interpretation practice at Hohhot historical sites.Based on the practice report,the interpreter clarified and analyzed whole tour guide interpretation process which is composed of preparations before interpretation,interpretation process and post-interpretation reflection.This practice contains collating relevant data,analyzing all kinds of interpretation problems,discussing interpretation difficulties,putting forward interpretation techniques and self-assessment,etc.The most important part is about the interpretation difficulties and corresponding techniques in the interpreting process.In the process,the interpretation difficulties are mainly about the interpretation of words and sentences.Specifically,the interpretation difficulties include interpretation of proper nouns,four-character structures,culture-loaded words,redundancy of Chinese tour guide’s presentation and long sentences.To deal with these interpretation difficulties,the author used some interpretation techniques,such as transliteration,literal translation,addition,division and restructuring and so on.This practice report provides several solutions to the problems which are caused by proper nouns,four-character structures,culture-loaded words and some difficult sentences.The author also hopefully contributes to carrying forward the Inner Mongolia culture.Moreover,the author wishes to accumulate significant experience for interpretation activities which are beneficial to the development of various interpretation activities in the future.
