| With the development of Chinese economy and society, people's living standard has been significantly improved and tourism has become a major consumption. Due to language barrier, some people require an interpreter to keep them company when traveling.Interpreting is a form of translation that from source language to target language. During the process, the information should be expressed quickly and accurately.From May 21 st to June 5th of 2015, the author escorted three guests(a couple with no English foundation and their young daughter with little English) to Amsterdam of Holland, Geneva of Swiss, Paris of French, Florence, Rome, Venice of Italy and Munich of German, totally 7 cities within 16 days. The author was responsible for interpretation, communication, tour guide, hotel reservation, ticket booking, and schedule arrangement. In the trip, the author applied simultaneous interpretation, alternating interpretation, sight interpretation and so on. In the interpreting practice, there are following five important methods, including literal interpretation, explanation, analogy, cutting content and adding content. Four abilities are also crucial, which are language ability, cross culture awareness, communication skills and capabilities dealing with various situations.It is believed that literal interpretation, analogy and cutting content are useful. Besides, cultural difference pose great difficulties to the process of interpretation. And personal abilities are crucial, especially the ability to deal with different situations. |
