| With the development of science and technology,technical writing becomes increasingly important to provide technical information for users.The translation of technical texts is flourishing accordingly.Therefore,it is significant to conduct research on how to ensure the translation quality of technical texts and how to make the translation of technical texts easy to understand on the basis of readers’ needs.This report is a translation practice report on English-Chinese translation of the book Technical Writing 101: A Real World Guide to Planning and Writing Technical Texts and chapter 3 to chapter 6 has been translated.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the analysis of the common difficulties in translation process will be carried out at three levels: lexical level,syntactic level and textual level,and possible translation methods and solutions will be discussed to provide insights into the translation of technical texts.The translation process consists of three parts: pre-translation preparation,in-translation process and post-translation process,each of which is further divided into two steps.The report analyzes the text from three levels.By using translation methods such as zero translation and free translation,as well as translation techniques such as addition,omission,division and combination,the author mainly solves the difficulties in translation process like the translation of expository information,complex sentences and contextual relationship.Through the process description and case analysis,this report draws the following conclusions:(1)It is important to ensure the integrity of the translation process.Every step of the pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation process is indispensable,which can effectively guarantee the quality of translation.(2)Communicative translation theory allows modification of the translation.In order to transfer the information correctly and achieve the communicative function of the technical text,translators can adjust and edit the translation according to the purpose of the text.(3)To be effective in technical writing,technical writers should give priority to readers.They should deliver the information accurately through expressions that readers can understand,and ensure that readers can understand and accept the information and put it into practice. |
