In recent years, globalization has gained rapid development and the concept of energy-saving has attained broad attention. Thus,Energy Performance Contracting(EPC),an emerging energy-conservation service, has taken off across the world. For realizing sustainable development and changing its economic engine,China supports domestic companies to search for cooperation with their foreign counterparts, learning advanced experiences and expanding their overseas market. In the multinational projects of such energy-conservation services, however, the translation of technical texts plays an essential role in promoting the smooth running of cross-border cooperation. This translation report is based on the translation practice of the technical text,General Technical Requirements-Electrical,in an EPC contract. And,Peter Newmark’s Text Typology as well as his Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation are the theory guidance in this practice process.Guided by these theories, the author analyzes the original text from vocabulary and syntax, and outlines major tough problems and corresponding translation approaches in this report. The whole report has four parts. The first one introduces the background information of this translation program as well as the research purpose and the meaning of this translation practice. The second one simply tells the general three steps of this translation task, which refers to pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The third part is the utmost important content, which includes typical examples such as technical terms, abbreviations, passive sentences and long sentences in this technical text and introduces corresponding appropriate translation methods. The last part goes over this whole practice and summarizes the gains and losses from it.
