| Since Ming and Qing Dynasties,southern Jiangsu has always been the flourishing place of culture in China.In modern times,southern Jiangsu was opened up as a treaty port earlier.The infiltration of western ecclesiastical women’s school gave birth to the enthusiasm of Chinese people to establish their own women’s s chool.Faced with China’s defeat in the Sino-Japanese War,the signing of the Xin-Chou Treaty,and the failure of the New Deal in the late Qing Dynasty,Chinese progressives began to learn from the Western powers and Japan.In learning from the West,the progressives in modern China noticed the importance of establishing women’s schools.As the general atmosphere did not open,the private women’s schools in southern Jiangsu were in a groping stage at the beginning.Private women’s schools have no uniform standards in terms of founding funds,tuition and miscellaneous fees,teachers and students,academic levels,courses and school-running purposes.It was not until the New Deal period of the late Qing Dynasty when the government issued the Regulations of Zuding women’s Primary School and the Regulations of Zuding women’s Normal School that women’s schools were officially recognized.There were rough standards for the establishment of women’s schools.After the founding of the Republic of China,the government standardized the behavior of running private women’s schools.The state has strengthened the management of private women’s schools.The government has unified provisions on school-running purposes and holiday setting.The government has introduced party principles and citizenship into the curriculum to educate students about the three Principles of the People.The extracurricular life of the private women’s school in southern Jiangsu is rich and colorful,including sports meeting and student association activities.The teachers and students of the private women’s school in southern Jiangsu in modern times also actively engaged in political activities in extracurricular life.On the one hand,they campaigned for national sovereignty.On the other hand,they opposed Yuan Shikai’s restoration,supported the revolution to raise money for the northern Expedition,opposed the dismemberment of warlords,and maintained the unity and tranquility of the country.In the warlord infighting,they devoted themselves to defending their hometown,saving the dying and healing the wounded,contributing to the stability of the local situation. |
