Report On Translation Of Phosphorus-based And Intumescent Flame Retardants（Excerpt）

Flame retardant science and technology is helpful in preventing fire,decreasing property loss,protecting life,increasing social stability and accelerating social development.Therefore,the translation of relevant literature and materials in this field meets social and scientific development.It is significant in application and practice.This report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of the English scientific and technological literature Phosphorus-based and Intumescent Flame Retardants written by the German scholar S.H（?）rold.In view of the characteristics of many technical terms and special sentence patterns of scientific and technological texts,guided by the three principles of Skopos Theory,the report discusses the translation methods and skills of scientific and technological texts from three aspects: vocabulary,sentence and text.Lexical analysis starts from three perspectives: terminological vocabulary,functional structure words and action nouns.Terminological vocabulary follows the principle of skopos and fidelity,and adopts the methods of zero translation and word by word translation;functional and structural words follow the principles of fidelity and coherence,and adopt the method of sequential translation;action nouns follow the principle of skopos and coherence and adopt the part of speech conversion method.Sentence analysis starts from passive and active perspectives,analyzes simple sentences,compound sentences and complex sentences,follows the three principles of fidelity,skopos and coherence of Skopos Theory,and adopts the methods of addition,subtraction,transposition and reorganization.From the perspectives of tense,coherence and cohesion,text analysis is based on the skopos principle,embodies the principles of fidelity and coherence,and adopts translation methods such as combination,division and reorganization.Through this translation practice,the author has deepened the understanding and application of Skopos Theory and scientific and technological translation methods and skills,and laid a certain theoretical and practical foundation for the author’s future translation research and practical work.
