| With the emergence of economic globalization and the development of the internet,people are becoming more aware of the importance of learning and mastering English.Vocabulary is one of the most important elements of language.In order to improve proficiency in English,it is essential to acquire a sufficient number of English words.Vocabulary teaching thus represents the most important aspect of English language teaching.However,the present state of English vocabulary teaching does not seem optimistic in the classroom.Generally,teachers use traditional vocabulary instruction methods,disregarding the students’ interest in vocabulary learning,which contributes to the low quality of their learning.Additionally,teachers only introduce students to a great deal of vocabulary,without creating a context for the vocabulary,leading to students learning them by rote and not using them in context.When compared to traditional teaching methods,the situational approach is more effective.Teachers perform instructional activities under situations that are closely related to that of students’ actual lives.The thesis is based on constructivism theory,language acquisition theory,and situational cognitive learning theory and stresses the creation of corresponding situations based on the use of different vocabulary.This study attempts to examine the effectiveness and feasibility of teaching students English vocabulary using the situational teaching method in order to boost their interest in learning and improve learning efficiency.During the research process of this thesis,the author used two parallel classes as the subjects,with one class serving as the experimental class,using a situational teaching method,and the other serving as the control class,using a traditional teaching method.Specifically,the research seeks to answer the following questions: 1.What is the influence of situational teaching method on students’ interest in English vocabulary learning? 2.What are the effects of situational teaching method on primary school students’ ability to use vocabulary? Data is primarily collected through questionnaires,interviews,and tests.A scientific analysis of the collected data is performed by using the SPSS software.The experimental results show: first,applying the situational teaching method to vocabulary teaching can stimulate students’ interest in vocabulary learning.After the experiment,the students were satisfied with this teaching method and became more interested in English vocabulary learning.Second,from the test data,it can be seen that the students’ vocabulary scores have improved significantly.The application of situational teaching method to vocabulary teaching is beneficial to improve students’ ability to use vocabulary.Lastly,the author discusses the limitations of the study and makes some suggestions for future research on English vocabulary education in primary schools. |
