Chinese culture has been gaining an increasing popularity among foreigners with the advances of international communication.Naturally,Chinese tea culture,as an essential part,is playing an irreplaceable role in the communication.Recently, the translation of culture-loaded words has become a hot topic for many practitioners. Many practices indicate that a good translation of the works filled with culture information is dependent on the proper handling of the core meanings and the cultural connotations of the culture-loaded words and that, inevitably, poses a challenge to the translators. Therefore, the successful rendering of the various words with abundant tea culture connotations in The Book of Illustrated Tea Culture is a difficult part in this translation practice. With the purpose of conveying the cultural connotations of tea, this report discusses the C-E translation methods of those tea-culture-loaded words from two perspectives, namely, domestication strategy and foreignization strategy under the guidance of Skopos theory. From the standpoint of cultural communication,it is suggested that foreignization strategy is effective both in maintaining the heterogeneity of Chinese tea culture and in promoting the foreign readers’ understanding of it as well due to the fact that the culture-loaded words are culturally restrictive. In this case, annotation is an effective means of transferring the innate heterogeneity of tea culture in the communication by striking a balance between foreign readers’ cultural comprehension ability and the semantic meanings of the words.
