Education has a profound impact on personal and social development.Children’s family education is the most important link in the education system,which directly affects children’s healthy development in the future.This report is based on the ChineseEnglish translation practice of Chapter 11 of Family Education by Chen Heqin,a famous educator in the former Republic of China(1912-1949).Family Education was first published in 1925,which is a book about children’s education.There are thirteen chapters in this book,and chapter 11 is selected as the Chinese-English translation practice text.Chapter 11 gives a detailed introduction of the 13 principles in punishing children,adding up to 11,026 words.There are detailed contents and rich examples in the book Family Education,which illustrates how to educate children by giving examples.Generally speaking,the language is simple and easy to understand.However,some dialects and culture-loaded words in the original text are relatively uncommon today,so the understanding of them becomes difficulty in translation.By consulting extenively and collecting relevant information and under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the author uses flexible translation methods and techniques to try to accurately convey the meaning of the original text.Through translation practice and analysis of typical translation cases,this report explores and practices the theory of Eco-translatology.This translation practice report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is the background of this translation,including the background of this task,the status of this research,the significance of this translation practice and the content of this translation.Chapter two is the description of the translation process,including the preparation before translation,the matters in translation and the revision after translation.Chapter three is about the translation theory and application,which briefly introduces the theory of Eco-translatology,the combination of the theory and practical projects as well as the understanding and expression in translation.Chapter four is the analysis of translation cases,which analyzes some translation cases from the micro perspective of Eco-translatology,that is,the linguistic dimension,the cultural dimension,the communicative dimension and the multidimensional dimension;Chapter five is the summary of this translation practice,which generalizes the achievements,insufficiency and points out the striving direction in the future.Through this translation practice,the author further studied Mr Chen Heqin’s ideas and methods of family education,explored the guiding significance,theoretical value,translation strategies and methods of Eco-translatology theory to translation practice.This report aims to provide reference for the translators of similar texts,drive more people to pay attention to family education,promote Chinese educational thought to go abroad.
