Reading is not only an important way for people to obtain information,but also the most common way for people to learn a foreign language.It occupies a large proportion in junior middle school students’ English learning.However,some students are unwilling to read English articles.Although some students are interested in English reading and are willing to read,they fail to get enough opportunities to participate independently in the English reading and fall in the trouble of inefficient reading and don’t know how to improve their reading ability.So it is necessary to explore a set of effective English reading teaching model.According to the new curriculum concept of student-centered and teacher-guided,this study selects BOPPPS teaching model to conduct an English reading teaching experiment in junior middle school.BOPPPS teaching model is a student-centered teaching model guided by teaching objectives.It attaches importance to improving students’ participation in the teaching process and emphasizes that students complete their active construction of knowledge by participating in teaching activities.It forms a complete and closed-loop teaching process which includes six teaching parts Bridge-in,Objective,Pre-assessment,Participatory Learning,Postassessment,Summary.It attaches importance to improving teachers’ ability to design teaching and advocates that teachers should obtain students’ learning feedback in time as an important basis for improving teaching quality.This study takes the students of two classes in Grade 7 of Jiaozuo Daoqing Middle School as the research subjects,and conducts the reform of English reading teaching based on BOPPPS teaching model in the experimental class.The original teaching model is still applied in the control class.During the four-month experimental period,the English reading course of the experimental class is designed and conducted according to the six teaching parts in BOPPPS teaching model,and attention is paid to the guidance of reading strategy activities in English textbooks in the teaching process.Through the above experiment,this study attempts to answer the following two questions: 1.What impact does the application of BOPPPS teaching model have on the acquisition of English reading strategies of junior middle school students? 2.What are the effects of the teaching reform of English reading in junior middle school by applying BOPPPS teaching model?In order to evaluate the changes of students’ English reading ability and acquisition of reading strategies before and after the experiment,this study adopts the methods of reading test and questionnaire.In order to investigate the students’ attitude towards the BOPPPS teaching model in the experimental class,the interview method is adopted.Then the collected data is processed by SPSS 20 0.The results show that:1.The application of BOPPPS teaching model has a positive impact on students’ acquisition of English reading strategies.After comparing the data of the two questionnaires before and after the experiment,it is found that after the four-month teaching experiment,the students in the experimental class have learned and used more English reading strategies than before,and their acquisition of English reading strategies has improved.2.English reading teaching based on BOPPPS teaching model in junior middle school can improve students’ English reading ability,and the teaching model is approved by students.The comparison result of pre-test shows that there is no significant difference between the experimental class and the control class.After the experiment,the test scores of students in the experimental class are significantly higher than those in the control class.According to the interview results,students think that Objective in BOPPPS teaching model can stimulate their learning motivation and express that they are willing to take part in Participatory Learning activities in this model.To sum up,the teaching reform of English reading in junior middle school based on BOPPPS teaching model is effective and can be popularized appropriately.
