English is a very important subject in secondary school,and it has a great impact on the development of students’ foreign language skills.The cultivation of reading ability in English teaching plays a very important part in it,which greatly promotes the deep learning of students’ English cultural content and the mastery of corresponding language skills.Therefore,in the current process of English teaching,the cultivation of students’ English reading ability has become a very important teaching goal.However,in the actual classroom,students’ interest in English reading is generally not high,lack of interaction and participation in the classroom,and without effective participation it is difficult to arouse students’ curiosity in learning,which requires teachers to constantly explore new ways to stimulate students’ interest in reading.Based on interactionism and constructivism,BOPPPS teaching mode is an effective teaching mode that can improve learner participation.It teaches reading through six teaching steps: Bridge-in,Objectives,Pre-assessment,Participatory Learning,Post-assessment,and Summary.This study will select 98 students from two parallel classes of the first year in an ordinary high school in Xiamen,Fujian Province,adopt a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods(questionnaire method,interview method and Teaching Experimental Method),apply questionnaire,test and SPSS as research instruments,and use SPSS26 to analyze the data,and attempt to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the impact of the application of BOPPPS teaching mode on students’ enthusiasm and interest in English reading?(2)Can the application of BOPPPS teaching mode improve students’ English reading ability?Through 15 weeks of experimental research and analysis of experimental data,namely questionnaires,academic records and interview data,this study can preliminarily reach the following conclusions:(1)BOPPPS teaching mode can improve students’ reading enthusiasm and interest to a certain extent.In the process of learning English reading,the students become more active,and can independently make an English reading learning plan before class,cooperate with group members to actively explore during class,actively answer class questions and carefully complete after-class tasks.(2)Most students in EC recognize BOPPPS teaching mode,believing that it can improve their English reading ability,and enhance their ability to identify and extract information,generalize and analyze,and criticize and evaluate.Finally,the enlightenments and suggestions on English reading teaching are put forward for this study: teachers should first recognize the feasibility of applying BOPPPS teaching mode to English reading teaching,pay attention to providing targeted guidance and help in the teaching process,teach students some reading skills,stimulate students’ interest in reading as much as possible,and improve students’ interaction and participation in the classroom.In addition,the conclusions of this study will help enrich the exploration of front-line teachers on effective ways to improve students’ English reading ability,and will provide some references for the reform of high school English reading teaching.
