Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Scientific And Technological Papers Related To Medium Voltage Electrical Machinery

With the development of strategic partnerships between countries,scientific and technological cooperation between countries is becoming more and more frequent.The development prospects of electrical machinery are broad,and our country needs to learn from a large number of foreign scientific and technological papers in promoting the innovation of electrical machinery technology.Therefore,it is urgent to translate the foreign papers of electrical machinery technology.This dissertation is a translation practice report based on the insulation of electrical machinery research,which can provide a certain reference for the translation of scientific and technological text in this field.The translation task is commissioned by the editorial department of Large Electric Machine and Hydraulic Turbine of Harbin Institute of Large Electrical Machinery,with a total of 13,733 words,and published in Guowai Dadianji.This report is guided by Catford’s translation shifts theory,and describes the entire translation process including pre-translation preparation,while-translation process and post-translation management.Through case analysis,it analyzes the structure shifts,class shifts and unit shifts in category shifts.The analysis focuses on the translation of passive voice to active voice,inanimate subject to animate subject and post-modifier to pre-modifier;the translation of part-of-speech conversion between verbs,adjectives and nouns,and the translation of conversion between sentences,clauses and phrases.Through the analysis of this translation task,this report finds that Catford’s translation shifts theory can help translators get rid of the shackles of English forms when translating,and convert the meaning of the original text into a form that conforms to the Chinese expression habits.The English-Chinese translation of the text is very practical,especially in guiding the translation difficulties such as voice,part-of-speech,and long and difficult sentences.This report believes that in the process of translating scientific and technological text,the accuracy of terminology translation should be ensured as much as possible.On the premise of fully understanding the original text and being faithful to the original content,appropriate conversion methods should be adopted according to the characteristics of the text,so as to make the translation smooth,coherent and readable.It is hoped that this English-Chinese translation practice report can provide valuable reference materials for the translation practice of EST（English for Science and Technology）in the future,so as to improve the speed and quality of future scientific and technological translation work.
