| This report is based on an English-Chinese translation practice of an academic paper,titled "Translation and Metaphor:Setting the Terms" excerpted from the book Thinking through Translation with Metaphors.This section of the book introduces,with logical and rigorous language,the historical development of metaphor in the translation field,providing a unique perspective for translation studies and a valuable resource for understanding metaphorical language.This report is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the background of the translation task and the features of the source text.The second part is Process Description,which enables the translator to gain a deeper understanding of the source text through pretranslation preparation,during-translation process and proofreading and modification.The third part presents an overview of Reiss’s Text Typology Theory as the theoretical framework,and defines the text type of the source text as informative text with expressive characteristics.In the fourth part of Case Analysis,the translator applies in translation the strategies like supplement,annotation,conversion,inversion and restructuring,reconstruction of complex sentences and passive voice guided by Reiss’s Text Typology Theory.The last part summarizes problems and the personal gains in the translation process.Meanwhile,the translator makes a reflection and summary based on the problems encountered in the translation process as a reference for future translation practice. |
