The landscape painting of Song Dynasty was the golden period of the development of Chinese landscape painting.The landscape painting in Song Dynasty not only highly expresses the Song people’s understanding of nature,philosophy and religion,but also shows their superb painting skills to future generations with their exquisite style,beautiful artistic conception and super realistic skills,affecting the paintings of later dynasties in China.Xia Gui,one of the four great masters in the Southern Song Dynasty,inherited the artistic conception of the Northern Song Painting Academy and the literati landscape in the lower Qiyuan Dynasty and later generations.He not only inherited the precise realistic skills of the Northern Song Academy,but also developed a fresh and free style of freehand brushwork with ingenuity and ingenuity.An in-depth analysis of Xia Gui’s works is of great significance for understanding the artistic realm and techniques of landscape painting in the Southern Song Dynasty.Based on the unique historical background,traditional philosophy and painting theory of the Southern Song Dynasty,this paper chooses Xia Gui’s most famous representative work "The Qingyuan Picture of Xishan Mountain" as the research object,focusing on its spatial structure characteristics and visual expression,taking the small as the big,throwing a brick to attract jade,and using on the method of literature research and case study from the perspective of image analysis.By investigating,comparing and studying methods of visual culture,this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the visual causes and morphological characteristics of Xia Gui’s works,as well as the inspiration for contemporary Chinese landscape painting creation.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is an overview of Xiagui and Xishan Qingyuan Picture.The second part starts with the influence of the background of the times,the change of social environment,the traditional humanistic thought and the change of space concept,and then analyses the causes of the schema of The Qingyuan Map of Xishan Mountain.In the third part,from the perspectives of ink color and object image,space and line,space and depth,space and scene conversion,space and object symbols,the visual expression of spatial structure in Xishan Qingyuan Picture is deeply analyzed and compared.The fourth part is the combination and application of Xiagui’s landscape techniques in creation.By introducing my graduation work Utopia,I summarize and sublimate the understanding and grasp of Xiagui’s composition characteristics and brush and ink techniques.The fifth part is the conclusion.
