With the development of globalization and the deepening of China’s opening to the outside world, our country becomes more and more in line with the world in academic field.A lot of universities invite foreign experts and scholars to give professional academic lectures which provide an arena to discuss the current situation of different industries. These academic lectures not only promote academic exchanges at home and abroad, but also broaden students’ horizons. However, the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19 suddenly cut off academic exchanges, causing plenty of lectures being canceled. But just as the title of this interpreting project,we have medium which can help us rebuild the connection through several online conference software and continue our academic exchanges. The material of this report is extracted from the series of lectures with the topic of “Mediality and Intermediality in Literature and Arts”.The author was invited to provide lecture interpretation service for some students from the School of Arts.During the interpreting process, the author came across many obstacles and through analyzing the transcription, three major problems were summarized:difficulties in listening and comprehension, difficulties in language output and the translation of multimodal text such as pictures and videos.Considering the special features of academic lectures, the author decided to choose translator’s subjectivity theory as the guidance for finding corresponding solutions.Firstly, grasping the logic words, mastering skills in translating attributive clauses and utilizing context inference.Secondly, making a glossary and field knowledge table, adding concrete explanations and manifesting pronoun references.Last but not the least, adding nouns of locality and summarizing the scenario and introducing main characters. The problems explored and the strategies proposed would hopefully provide valuable reference for online interpretation and academic lecture interpretation.
