From July 1st,2020 to December 31st,2020,the reporter worked as an intern in a medical consultancy, and undertook the department’s interpreting work during this period. On October 24thand 25th,the 1st Liquid Biopsy Conference was held online due to the global outbreak of COVID-19.The reporter thus provided the consecutive interpreting service for a keynote speech on liquid biopsy for brain tumors, helping clinical project managers in her company better understand the latest research of an American expert. This report focuses on analyzing problems encountered in the interpreting project mainly from three aspects.Firstly, the reporter lacked medical expertise, including knowledge about liquid biopsy and relevant terminologies.Secondly, there were problems with the processing of source language, involving problems with chart interpreting and long sentences.Thirdly, the reporter had difficulty in remote interpreting because of the network latency and the missing of nonverbal information. After reviewing audio-recording transcripts, the reporter tries to put forward solutions. To make up for insufficient medical expertise,it’s necessary to make full pre-task preparations by enriching professional knowledge about liquid biopsy and memorizing relevant terminologies. As for problems with source language, the reporter should enhance the ability of processing source language through developing chart interpreting skills and improving efficiency of processing long sentences.Last but not least, the reporter needs to get familiar with remote devices and learn to make the most of limited information so that she can adapt to the working mode of remote interpreting. On the basis of the interpreting practice, the report analyzes problems and proposes corresponding solutions. It is hoped that it can provide some reference for online medical interpreting in the future.
