Some researchers asserted that compared to Song dynasty, the use of Chinese dynamic auxiliaries “zhuo”,“le”,and “guo” surged in Yuan dynasty. But this conclusion was only made qualitatively, without statistic support. This thesis starts from statistic point of view, trying to test the significance of the difference in the use of Chinese dynamic auxiliary “le” in Song dynasty and Yuan dynasty.Statistically,in order to test the significance of the difference of a language phenomenon, the algorism of Log-Likelihood Ratio is commonly used.A collection of 14 novels and proses in Song dynasty is collected,in which there are altogether 4893081 Chinese characters, including 2655 times of “le”,occupying0.054% of the total;similarly,a collection of 15 novels and proses in Yuan dynasty is collected,in which there are altogether 1912926 Chinese characters, including 15175 times of “le”,occupying 0.793% of the total.A parsing and part-of-speech tagging system developed by Chinese Academy of Sciences is used in the research. With this system, the above mentioned 2 collections are parsed and tagged with part-of-speech.Thus 2 corpuses are established, namely, the Corpus of Song Dynasty and the Corpus of Yuan Dynasty.A corpus analysis system——Antconc—— is used to do the log-likelihood test. The result concludes that the use of the Chinese dynamic auxiliary “le” in Yuan dynasty is significantly different from that in Song dynasty. It surged dramatically. The first chapter of this thesis is introduction of the research background, purpose, and significance. The second chapter introduces the related research in the past. The third chapter is about the design of the research, including the research questions, the theoretical background, the data collection, the research hypotheses, the research methods. The fourth chapter is about the procedures of doing the research. The fifth chapter is the part of results and analysis. The last chapter is the conclusion part.
