A Study Of Auxiliary Words In Inscriptions In Vernacular In Yuan Dynasty

The vernacular inscription of the Yuan Dynasty is a kind of vernacular inscription inscribed on the tablets,which was mostly issued by the rulers of the Yuan Dynasty to temples,Taoist temples and monasteries.The inscription language,which has both the vocabulary and syntactic characteristics of middle and ancient Mongolian and Chinese of the Yuan Dynasty,is valuable data to study Chinese of the Yuan Dynasty and the contact between Chinese and Mongolian.In recent years,with the continuous strengthening of the study of Chinese grammar of the Yuan Dynasty,the study of vernacular inscriptions in the Yuan Dynasty has been increasingly valued.On the whole,previous researches mainly focus on the collation,proofreading and analysis of the special vocabulary and grammar in the vernacular inscription of the Yuan Dynasty,which were lack of overall analysis of some kind of grammatical phenomenon.This paper aims to give a detailed description of the auxiliary words in the vernacular inscription of the Yuan Dynasty,and at the same time to compare the usage of the auxiliary words in the Punishments of Yuan Judgments,to summarize the usage and characteristics of the auxiliary words in this period,and to analyze the characteristics of the contact between Mongolian,and Chinese reflected in the selection of the auxiliary words in the vernacular inscription.The thesis is divided into six parts.Introduction part:Mainly summarizing the significance of dissertation,academic research on auxiliary words,Chinese auxiliary words in modern times,vernacular inscription of the Yuan Dynasty,and the main methods used in the thesis writing.Explaining the thesis'corpus and special circumstances.Chapter 1 to chapter 4:Introducing respectivelythe distribution and usage of dynamic auxiliary words,state auxiliary words,structural auxiliary words and modal auxiliary words in the vernacular inscription.We classify each auxiliary from the perspective of format,grammatical function and grammatical meaning,then do detailed description and analysis,in contrast with auxiliary words' usage in the Punishments of Yuan Judgments,summarize the usage of each auxiliary word,make every effort to present the whole picture of the auxiliary words in the vernacular inscription,and attemptto explore the Mongolian's influence to Chinese auxiliary words.Chapter 5:Focusing on the usage of auxiliary word-"you",which was notional verb used to express the tense aspect meaning,that can often be found in the vernacular inscription and other literal translation from its distribution and usage in expressing the tense aspect meaning.And at the same time,we attempt to analyze the contact between verb-"you"and auxiliary word-"you".Conclusion part:Mainly summarizing the auxiliary words'usage and characteristics in the vernacular inscription and the Punishments of Yuan Judgments,and analyzing briefly the occurrence's reasons of some auxiliary words' special usage.We think that auxiliary words found in that two kinds of corpus inherit and develop,and some auxiliary words' usage are special,which have something to do with the contact between Mongolian and Chinese.
